About Being Melissa
People say that what we’re seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. What we seek is an experience of being alive. ~ Joseph Campbell
A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play, his labour and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself he always seems to be doing both. Enough for him that he does it well. ~ L. P. Jacks
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.,
-Robert A. Heinlein
Act, or be acted upon.
You never change things by fighting the exist reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete. Buckminster Fuller.
Being Melissa is my private journal, a place where I share and articulate my process, perspective, mythology, and philosophy. With a rigorous honesty, I set aside political correctness, fear, shame, and other limitations in order to “lift the veil” towards a self-determined and fully self-expressed life.
My journal offers insights and perspectives into the work I do, intersecting and connecting my personal and professional aspirations. It is my intention to document my journey of self-development so that others may be galvanized to do the same for themselves.
Readers will find themselves engaging a full range of emotions that promises to make them stretch beyond what they think is possible for me and for their own lives.
Sometimes I write, sometimes I record audio. When there’s audio, I will try my best to include a transcription.
